PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electroluminescent element facilitating control of luminous colors, having a light emitting film which can be formed on a top surface of an Si substrate including a semiconductor integrated circuit formed thereon or a flexible base substance, and capable of performing color display, and to provide a method for manufacturing the electroluminescent element. SOLUTION : A solution containing an organic compound of a rare earth element is applied on a surface of an Si substrate 10 serving as a first electrode by a spin on coating method, an inkjet printing method or the like to form a coated film. Then, by subjecting the coated film to heat treatment, a light emitting film 12 having a light emitting region of a desired luminous color is formed, and furthermore, a second electrode 13 is formed on a surface of the light emitting film 12.
