A pigment of empirical composition [in-line-formulae](TiO2)a(ZnO)b(SnO)c(SnO2)d(RExOy)e(AEO)f(MuOv)g [/in-line-formulae] wherein RE is a metal from transition group 3 or a rare earth metal, AE is an alkaline earth metal, andM is any other metal, wherea=0.8-3; b=0.5-1.3; c=0.5-1.3; d=0-0.5; e=0-0.3; f=0-0.3; and g=0-0.1, and e+f≧0.01. Preferably RE is selected from the elements Y, La, Ce, and Pr. The pigments are used as colorants for coloring paints, inks, plastics, and rubber.
