PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To stabilize a power output from a rare earth doped optical fiber by exactly measuring an increase in loss caused by photodarkening. SOLUTION : A fiber power output stabilizer stabilizes output light from the rare earth doped optical fiber 1, whose core is doped with at least one kind of a rare earth element. The fiber power output stabilizer includes a monitoring light source 2, which emits a monitoring light shorter in wavelength than that of an exciting light that excites the rare earth element; an optical multiplexer 3 which synthesizes monitoring light from the monitoring light source 2 with exciting light; an optical demultiplexer 4 which separates monitoring light having passed through the rare earth doped optical fiber 1 as branch light; and a passed light detector 5, which detects the light intensity of monitoring light from the optical demultiplexer 4.
