An iron electrode material with high capacity, the iron electrode material is consisted of an active material and an additive, the active material is iron or iron compound which comprises at least one selected from Fe3O4, Fe(OH)2, Fe(OFT)3, Fe2O3, reduced iron powder and carbonyl iron powder; the additive comprises (1) lanthanon oxide with a content of 1 -10% which comprises at least one selected from La2O3, CeO2, Nd2O3, Pr2O3, Y2O3, Gd2O3 and Sm2O3 and (2) a solution of nickel hydroxide or saturated nickel sulfate with a content of 1 -3%.
