PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of producing compost having a good water retention and usable for tree plantation in deserts or arid zones which controls the occurrence of malodor, when a composting device for kitchen wastes is in operation and reduces the time required for composting. SOLUTION : The composting process comprises adding diatomaceus earth particles to and uniformly mixing them with the kitchen wastes so as to control the proliferation of anaerobic bacteria and to activate aerobic bacteria.
