PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method of rare earth fluoride capable of providing high purity rare earth fluoride by an operation method high in safety without reducing recovery rate. SOLUTION : There is provided a manufacturing method of rare earth fluoride containing R, in which R is one or more kinds selected from Nd, Pr, Dy, Tb, as rare earth. In this manufacturing method, an R compound which is one or more kinds selected from R oxalate, R carbonate, R oxide, R hydroxide, and a fluorine-containing compound containing at least one of ammonium fluoride and acidic ammonium fluoride at a first temperature in which these are solid state. The resulting mixture is heat treated at a second temperature of a melting point of the fluorine-containing compound or more and less than 300°C for a prescribed time, and then heat treated at a third temperature which is higher than the second temperature for a prescribed time.
