PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a nitride having higher purity as compared with the conventional method. SOLUTION : The method for producing a compound comprising M1 (at least one kind of element selected from alkali metal elements, alkaline earth metal elements, scandium, yttrium, and lanthanide rare earth elements), M2 (at least one kind of element selected from silicon and aluminum), and nitrogen is characterized in that a material containing a compound, that produces at least carbon by heating in a reduced pressure state or in a non-oxidative atmosphere, is made to react in an atmosphere containing nitrogen.
