PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve temperature characteristics of a Faraday rotator made of Bi-substituted rare-earth iron garnet. SOLUTION : The Faraday rotator is made of a polycrystalline substance composed of a plurality of kinds of crystal grain having positive and negative differential coefficients of Faraday rotation to temperature in the vicinity of room temperature to improve the temperature characteristics of the Faraday rotator.
