Disclosed is a dielectric porcelain composed of crystal particles mainly containing barium titanate and further containing magnesium and a rare earth element. The dielectric porcelain contains 0.02-0.064 mole of magnesium in terms of MgO and 0.01-0.06 mole of the rare earth element (RE) in terms of RE2O3 per 1 mole of barium constituting the dielectric porcelain. The crystal particles have a cubic crystal structure and an average particle diameter of 100-145 nm. Also disclosed is a capacitor wherein this dielectric porcelain and a conductive layer are laminated.
