PURPOSE : A red phosphor for a plasma display panel(PDP), and a PDP containing the phosphor are provided to widen a color reproduction range and to reduce the manufacturing cost of a PDP by using no neon cut filter. CONSTITUTION : A red phosphor comprises 100 parts by weight of a phosphor represented by (Y, Gd)BO3 : Eu; and 0.01-10 parts by weight of a coating layer which comprises a rare earth element oxide and is formed on the surface of the phosphor. Preferably the rare earth element oxide is a niobium oxide(Nd2O3); and the coating layer is a continuous crystalline rare earth element oxide coating layer. © KIPO 2008
