PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a Faraday rotator which is low in cost, is comprehensively excellent in characteristics, and is composed of bismuth substituted rare-earth iron garnet, and to provide its manufacturing method and an optical isolator. SOLUTION : A magnetic material 2 having a Faraday effect is a polycrystalline material having a garnet type crystal structure and is charged in the inside of a groove 1a formed on a substrate 1. The magnetic material 2 has magnetic anisotropy originating from a magnetoelastic effect, and magnetic anisotropy energy originating from the magnetoelastic effect is larger than a magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant of the magnetic material 2 having the Faraday effect.
