PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a termination structure of an optical fiber for propagating high-intensity light in which a proportion at which surplus pumping light enters the clad of a single mode fiber can be reduced at a joint to a gain fiber while suppressing generation of heat from the coating.
SOLUTION : The termination structure provides for a joint where a single mode fiber is connected to the output end of a gain fiber having a core to which a rare earth element is added, a first clad surrounding the core and a second clad on the outer circumference thereof. The end face of the single mode fiber having the outside diameter smaller than that of the output end face of the gain fiber is fusion connected thereto while leaving a corner resulting from the difference in outside diameter between both end faces so that surplus pumping light propagated through the clad of the gain fiber can exit via the end face of the corner.
