A display panel includes a first substrate (3) having a plurality of address electrodes (13), and a second substrate (1) having a plurality of display electrodes (9, 11) that include bus electrodes (9b, 11b), the first and second substrates being arranged opposite to each other. The bus electrodes include a mixture of a chromophore element and an electrically conductive metal, the chromophore element including at least one of a transition element and a rare earth element metal.
