The invention relates to pigments of empirical formula (TiO2)a(ZnO)b(SnO)c(SnO2)d(RExOy)e(EAO)f(MuOv)g where RE is a metal of the third sub-group or a rare earth metal, EA is an earth alkali metal and M is any further metal, with a = 0.8 - 3; b = 0.5 - 1.3; c = 0.5 - 1.3; d = 0 - 0.5; e = 0 - 0.3; f = 0 - 0.3; g = 0 - 0.1, where e + f ≥ 0.01. RE is preferably selected from the elements Y, La, Ce and Pr. The pigments are used for colouring paints, printing inks, inks, plastics and rubber.
