PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a Faraday rotator which reversibly controls the polarization plane of light by using a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet single crystal, and optical parts using the same, and to provide a Faraday rotator having the Faraday rotation angle stably variable and a large variable angle even when the Bi-substituted rare earth iron garnet single crystal film is heat treated to decrease the growth-induced magnetic anisotropy, and optical pars using this Faraday rotator. SOLUTION : The Faraday rotator has a garnet single crystal, satisfying the conditions that the saturation rotation angle Fs of the rotator when a saturation magnetic field Hs is applied in the perpendicular direction to the entrance plane of the garnet single crystal and the Faraday rotation angle F when an external magnetic field H at the intensity as 0.9 time of the saturation magnetic field Hs is applied are in the relation of 1>F/Fs≥0.96.
