PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent material keeping high luminance even after the lapse of irradiation time of an excitation source.
SOLUTION : The compound oxide for fluorescent materials has a composition obtained by substituting a part of Mg of a compound expressed by formula (1) with one or more elements (M3) selected from the group 5 elements and group 6 elements and having an M3/(Mg+M3) molar ratio of ≥0.003 and ≤0.006. Formula (1); 3M1O-aMgO-bM2O2 (M1is one or more elements selected from Ba, Sr and Ca; M2 is Si and/or Ge; a is ≥0.9 and ≤1.1; and b is ≥1.8 and ≤2.2). The invention further provides a fluorescent material composed of the above compound oxide for fluorescent material and incorporated with M4 as an activator, and a fluorescent material obtained by substituting a part of the element M2 of the above compound oxide with M4 (M4 is one or more elements selected from rare earth elements and Mn).
