PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide environment-resistant coating which is formed by applying a top coat of an oxide ceramic onto the surface of a silicon carbide based fiber reinforced ceramic composite material of a non-oxide ceramic obtained by reinforcing a matrix of a ceramic with a silicon carbide based fiber and provides resistance against a high temperature high pressure steam-containing atmosphere to the surface of the composite material without deteriorating the fracture strength of the composite material and is hardly peeled off in spite of difference in thermal expansion coefficient and other characteristics. SOLUTION : The environment-resistant coating is constituted by forming an intermediate layer 3 comprising a mixture of aluminosilicate based glass-ceramics with a rare earth silicate on the surface of a base material 1 formed from the silicon carbide based fiber reinforced ceramic composite material and by applying a top coat 2 comprising the rare earth silicate layer onto the intermediate layer 3.
