PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a Faraday rotator, for preventing cracks or the like in a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet crystal film (RIG film) during manufacturing and achieving high accuracy of a Faraday rotation angle.SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing a Faraday rotator includes the following step in steps of manufacturing a Faraday rotator : a RIG film 1-1 is grown on a nonmagnetic garnet substrate (growth substrate) 2-1, the RIG film is ground and polished into a flat surface, then a first heat-radiation substrate 3-1 is bonded to the flattened RIG film by use of an optical adhesive, and without curing the adhesive, the growth substrate is removed by grinding by use of a rotary grinding device. The grain size of diamond abrasive grains in a grinder used for the rotary grinding device is #1000 (specified in JIS R6001) or more and #3000 (JIS R6001) or less.SELECTED DRAWING : Figure 3
