PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a carbon dioxide detecting element capable of being operated stably even in a high humidity atmosphere and hard to receive the effect of external noise. SOLUTION : In the carbon dioxide detecting element equipped with a cation conductive solid electrolyte containing a divalent or above cation as a main conductive species, an oxide ion conductive solid electrolyte and a detection electrode, the detection electrode is constituted of a mixture of solid solution based on a rare earth metal oxycarbonate and lithium carbonate and a solid solution of a rare earth metal oxysulfate and lithium carbonate.
