PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To acquire a scout image having an image showing the left and right parts of a specimen horizontally symmetric in width which achieves a proper horizontal symmetry regardless of the size of an imaging area of the specimen in an X-ray CT system equipped with a non-symmetrical detector, non-symmetrical in the channel direction with respect to the center line running through the X-ray focus and the center of rotation in an X-ray data collection system.
SOLUTION : X-ray projection data are collected by helical scanning or variable pitch helical scanning of the specimen at a low dosage to reconstruct a plurality of tomographic images successively in the direction of the body axis of the specimen (slicing direction) from the data. The plurality of tomographic images is re-projected in a prescribed direction to acquire the scout image of the specimen.
