PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth complex having a high luminous efficiency and to provide a luminescent material using the same. SOLUTION : The rare earth complex is represented by formula (I) [wherein Ln is a rare earth atom; R1 and R2 are each independently an alkyl, a perfluoroalkyl, an optionally substituted aryl; or an optionally substituted heteroaryl; R3 is a halogen atom, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an alkylthio, cyano, nitro, or an alkoxycarbonyl; Ar is an optionally substituted aryl or an optionally substituted heteroaryl; m is 1 or 2; and n is 0, 1, or 2].
