PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To cut a hard sintered rare earth magnetic alloy having a metal structure in which a very hard ferromagnetic crystal grain consisting of a crystal of a relatively large intermetallic compound is surrounded by a grain boundary phase into smaller portions having a smooth surface with excellent yield.
SOLUTION : In a method for cutting a sintered rare earth magnetic alloy, a flexible wire 2 having the diameter of ≤1.2 mm is pressed against a sintered rare earth magnetic alloy having a grain boundary phase which is easier to cut than a ferromagnetic crystal grain around the ferromagnetic crystal grain; and the wire is moved in its axial direction while interposing a grinding liquid 3 with abrasive grains 4 being dispersed in a dispersion medium.
