PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a sintered rare earth sesquichalcogenide compact with which the influence of a phase transformation can be averted by sintering raw material powder at a temperature lower than the manufacturing temperature thereof, and which is low in resistivity and excellent in electric conductivity and is adequate for use as a thermoelectric conversion material, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION : The sintered rare earth sesquichalcogenide compact is manufactured by adding ≤0.1 to 10wt%, for example, Mn, to the rare earth sesquichalcogenide powder expressed by composition formula A2B3(A is at least one rare earth element, such as Ce; B is at least one calcogen element, such as S), for example, La2S3powder, and sintering the powder at a temperature lower than the manufacturing temperature of the rare earth sesquichalcogenide powder, at a temperature about, for example, 800°C. Also, the sintered rare earth sesquichalcogenide compact is manufactured by adding 1.0 to 20wt% alkaline metal to the rare earth sesquichalcogenide powder, and sintering the powder at a temperature above 600°C and COPYRIGHT : (C)2005, JPO&NCIPI
