PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a material for soil improvement which is employed to improve, on site, especially in situ without excavation, a contaminated soil contaminated by heavy metals due to using of chemical reagents, etc., highly efficiently and also cost effectively using a simple method, and to provide a method for the soil amendment using the material. SOLUTION : The material for the soil improvement is employed to improve the contaminated soil contaminated by heavy materials, wherein a heavy-metal adsorbent containing a rare-earth compound is made to dispersion retain on a fiber layer mainly composed of an inorganic fiber of the average fiber diameter of 2 μm or below and is formed in a columnar shape (including a hollow structure) to give the material.
