A re-usable safety rail support has an elongate post (100) adapted to removably receive at least one rail receiving portion that will receive and support a safety rail m use. The tail support has a releasable damping mechanism for clamping engagement with an object to secure the rail support to the object, the releasable damping mechanism having an upper jaw that is fixed relative to the post, and a lower jaw that is slidable relative to the post. At least a part of the object is receivable between the upper jaw and the lower jaw.
