PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst which controls a formation of light parafins and produces effectively olefins, in catalytic cracking of a heavy hydrocarbon, and to provide a method for producing olefins with high yield from the heavy hydrocarbon using this catalyst. SOLUTION : A catalytic cracking catalyst for catalytically cracking a hydrocarbon as a raw material, has (A) a pentasyl type zeolite modified with a rare earth element and Zr and (B) a faujasite type zeolite. A heavy oil containing a hydrocarbon distillate of bp. 180°C or above by 50 mass% or above, is made to contact with the catalyst so that the heavy oil is cracked to produce olefins and fuel oil.
