PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp easily manufactured with a first halide containing thulium halide as an emission metal, with excellent service life property, light emitting efficiency and electrical property and free from mercury. SOLUTION : In this high-pressure discharge lamp, an ionization medium contains first halide, second halide and rare gas, the first halide is metal halide which emits light mainly in a visible range and contains thulium (Tm) halide and alkali metal halogen which contain at least bromide, and the second halide assumes mainly a lamp voltage formation action and contains mainly halide of one or more kinds of metals selected from a prescribed group but not substantially mercury.
