PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a phosphor affording a light-emitting apparatus having improved light-emitting characteristics practically consisting mainly of color rendering properties. SOLUTION : The phosphor is characterized as follows. One or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of a rare earth element, Mn and Bi are contained as an activator in a compound represented by formula aM1O-bM22O3-cM3O2(wherein, M1is one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Ba, Sr, Ca, Mg and Zn; M2is one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Al, Sc, Ga, Y, In, La, Gd ad Lu; M3is one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Si, Ti, Ge, Zr, Sn and Hf; a is a value within the range of ≥8 to ≤10; b is a value within the range of ≥0.8 to ≤1.2; and c is a value within the range of ≥5 to ≤7).
