SULFUR CONTENT REMOVING MATERIAL AND EXHAUST PURIFICATION SYSTEM IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a system in which a nitrogen oxide purification catalyst does not receive a sulfur poisoning in an exhaust purification system such as a diesel engine. SOLUTION : In the exhaust purification system, an upper layer of a honeycomb structural member is coated with a sulfur content absorber containing mainly an alkali metal containing compound, an alkaline earth metal containing compound, etc., and a sulfur content removing material 3 in which an upper layer of the sulfur content absorber is coated with an oxidizing material is installed at an upstream side of the exhaust against the nitrogen oxide purification catalyst. The poisoning prevention of the nitrogen oxide purification catalyst is carried out without a substantial desorption of the once absorbed sulfur content in the context of the normal internal combustion engine.
