METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING FARADAY ROTATOR AND OPTICAL ISOLATOR INTO WHICH WITH THE ROTATOR BUILT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To solve the problem wherein isolation is deteriorated with respect to a high output laser and the like, due to warpage, thickness unevenness, and the like of bismuth substitution type rare earth iron garnet films (RIG films), in a Faraday rotator that uses two or more of RIG films. SOLUTION : The Faraday rotator consists of a plurality of substrates 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 for heat radiation and a plurality of the RIG films 2-1, 2-2. After the RIG films, formed with an antireflection film only on one side face, are bonded to the substrate for heat radiation formed with the antireflection film on at least one side face by making the antireflection films face each other, the surfaces that are not formed with the anti-reflection films of the RIG films are polished in such a manner that the total of the Faraday rotation angles of the plurality of the RIG films attains 45°, and thereby the Faraday rotator alternately lined up with the substrates for heat radiation and the RIG films is produced. Also, the production of the optical isolator is performed by this method, in which the first and third substrates for heat radiation comprise a wedge-type rutile type and the second substrate for heat radiation is made of sapphire.
