PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To reduce a rate of the occurrence of defectives caused by molding or grinding, the cutting stock of a sintered body, and a material loss in contour grinding.
SOLUTION : A manufacturing method for an imbricate rare earth sintered magnet includes steps of compression molding magnetic powder for rare earth magnets in an oriented magnetic field, sintering a compact obtained by the compression molding step, and grinding a sintered body obtained by the sintering step into a hog-backed sintered body. At the compression molding step, the magnetic powder for rare earth magnets is compression-molded into a compact 1 having an arcuate curved surface 2 whose shape is substantially the same as the shape of the outer circumferential curved surface 12 of the imbricate sintered body 11, and a flat surface 3 that is opposed to the curved surface 2 on the side of the center of curvature of the curved surface 2.
