PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To achieve a photoionization detector allowing selective component detection of an organic substance and an inorganic substance, and restraining lowering of sensitivity from being generated.SOLUTION : He gas is supplied from a He gas source 10 through an injection tube 8 and a supply part 8E, and a rare gas other than He is supplied from another gas source 12 different from the source of the He through an injection tube 6 and a supply part 6E. The in-detector introduction part 6E for the rare gas other than He is provided separately from the in-detector introduction part 8E for the He for discharge, and is arranged in a position nearer to a column gas outlet of the an injection tube 7 than a discharge electrode 2. The rare gas other than He is able to reach the column gas outlet under the condition of holding an excited state, by approaching a place where the rare gas other than He is brought into the excited state to the column outlet, while keeping a distance between the discharge electrode 2 and the column gas outlet of the injection tube 7 in a distance enough to prevent the discharge electrode 2 from being contaminated.COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
