PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a Faraday rotor using a bismuth replacement type rare earth iron garnet film (RIG) as an optical isolator, the Faraday rotor being adapted to effectively dissipate heat generated in the RIG and prevent the optical isolation function of the RIG from degrading even used for a high output laser. SOLUTION : On the input side and output side of the bismuth replacement type rare earth iron garnet film 1, transparent heat-dissipation substrates 2 are disposed with an amount of not more than 100μm (0 is not included) left from a bismuth replacement type rare earth iron garnet film. Via a cementing material whose heat conductivity is not less that 10W/m×K, the entire external side faces of the bismuth replacement type rare earth iron garnet film 1 and heat dissipation substrates 2 are thermally brought into contact with heat sinks 3 disposed on the internal faces of magnets 4.
