PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To produce a platinum-rhodium catalyst for automobile waste gases having a lean-resistant property of a catalyst for waste gas purification by the variation in waste gas environment due to the fuel-cut of an automobile engine and a heat-resistant property of catalyst itself mounted to a high-temperature area at the proximity of the engine. SOLUTION : This platinum-rhodium catalyst for automobile waste gases comprises a catalyst layer and a catalyst carrier substrate carried by the surface of the catalyst layer, wherein the catalyst layer is formed from a mixture of a platinum catalyst carrier powder having 0.1-5 wt.% of platinum carried on either one of 95-99.9 wt.% of a first cerium oxide stabilized by zirconium or an activated alumina, a rhodium catalyst carrier powder having 0.1-5 wt.% of rhodium carried by a zirconium oxide stabilized by a rare earth metal element, a secondary cerium oxide stabilized by zirconium and a heat-resistant inorganic oxide, and a binder.
