PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a glass or glass ceramic fundamentally suitable for high level doping with a rare earth ion. SOLUTION : This glass or glass ceramic contains at least composing components SiO2, Al2O3, and Y2O3, and preferably doped with a rare earth ion. The weight ratio of the weight of Y2O3 to the total weight of the SiO2, Al2O3 and Y2O3 is at least 0.2, preferably at least larger than 0.4. It is preferable that the rare earth ion can be included in its crystal phase by the high concentration yttrium content precipitated from the glass. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
