PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an apparatus for purifying water, which is placed on the bottom surface of a pond, a water tank, a goldfish basin, or the like, and left there as it is, so that the water thereof can be purified without exerting a bad influence on fishes or other useful organisms in the water and without spoiling the beauty of the water surface and which is manufactured easily at a low cost. SOLUTION : This apparatus for purifying water is constituted so that earth and sand 20 are put at the bottom 120 of a tray 12 of a container 10 composed of a netted lid 11 and the tray 12 and sunk in water and aquatic shellfishes 30 and aquatic tubifex 40 are made to live together on the sunk earth and sand 20.
