PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method with which a rare earth phosphor having improved luminous efficiency can be produced by a simpler technique than conventional techniques. SOLUTION : The method for producing the phosphor comprises mixing a phosphor matrix precursor with an activating precursor in a synthetic solvent. The method is carried out as follows. A rare earth inorganic salt is used as the activating precursor and heating is carried out in a solvent. Thereby, the synthesis is conducted in one stage. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
