PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain an inorganic phosphor that has fluorescence properties of emitting orange light and red light at longer wavelengths than that of a conventional rare-earth-activated sialon phosphor. SOLUTION : The white light emitting diode having an abundant red component and excellent color rendering properties is designed by using a phosphor of solid solution crystal that comprises an inorganic compound having the same crystal structure as that of CaSiAlN3 crystal as a host crystal and M (M is one or more kinds of elements selected from Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu) as a luminescence center.
