PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a luminophor and a light emitting device capable of emitting light of red color near 600 nm of a wavelength at high light emission efficiency using an excitation source other than mercury. SOLUTION : This luminophor is obtained by doping an ion of a rare earth element such as europium in a crystal of tin dioxide. The light emitting device contains the luminophor in a glass phase.
