PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an upconversion fluorescent material which, when excited by infrared rays, emits a high-intensity upconversion fluorescence of a red, green, or blue color and emits light substantially in only one wavelength region. SOLUTION : Luminescent glass is provided which contains a halide crystal which is dispersed therein, contains a rare earth element, and emits an upconversion fluorescence in the visible range when excited by infrared rays. The wavelength exhibiting the maximum peak of the intensity of the fluorescence belongs to any of a wavelength region of 640-690 nm corresponding to red, a wavelength region of 520-570 nm corresponding to green, and a wavelength region of 450-500 nm corresponding to blue; and the intensity of the maximum peak is at least three times the intensity of a maximum peak among fluorescence peaks belonging to wavelength regions corresponding to other colors outside the wavelength region to which the above maximum peak belongs.
