PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline storage battery using a hydrogen storage alloy electrode having a superlattice crystal structure other than CaCu5 type, prevented from being turned into fine powder or being oxidized by charging and discharging, having improved cycle life.
SOLUTION : The hydrogen storage electrode containing at least rear earth element, Mg, and Ni, formed by mixing fluororesin powder by 0.3 wt.% or less to the powder of hydrogen storing alloy of which, an intensity ratio IA/IB between a maximum peak intensity IA appearing in a range of 2[!theta!]=31-33° and a maximum peak intensity IB appearing in a range of 2[!theta!]=40-44° in X-ray diffraction measurement with Cu-Kα rays as an X-ray source, is not less than 0.1, is used for a negative electrode 2 of the alkali storage battery.
