PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing an R-T-B based rare earth magnet, which can increase a coercive force while suppressing the worsening of magnetization even if a main phase particle diameter is 1-20 μm.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet comprises the steps of : preparing a melt of a first ally represented by (R1vR2wR3x)yTzBsM1t (where R1 is a light rare earth element, R2 is a middle rare earth element, R3 is a heavy rare earth element, T is an iron group element, and M1 is an impurity element, etc.); cooling the first alloy melt at a rate of 100-102 K/sec into a first alloy bulk; pulverizing the first alloy bulk into first alloy powder of 1-20 μm in particle diameter; preparing a melt of a second ally represented by (R4pR5q)100-uM2u (where R4 is a light rare earth element, R5 is a middle or heavy rare earth element, and M2 is e.g. an ally element which is alloyed with R4 and R5, thereby lowering a melting point of (R4pR5q)100-uM2u); and bringing the first alloy powder into contact with the second alloy melt.
