PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a discharge lamp mainly radiating light suitable for a photodynamic therapy PDT and a photodynamic diagnosis PDD using a photosensitive material.
SOLUTION : This discharge lamp for the photodynamic therapy radiates light with a wavelength suitable for light absorption wavelength of the photosensitive material having a comparatively high light absorption coefficient in a wavelength area ranging from 700 to 800 nm. In this discharge lamp, K serving as a light emitting element is charged by a ratio of 0.1 μmol/cm3 or more for radiating light of a wavelength region ranging from 760 to 800 nm, and at least one or more kinds of gases from among rare gases Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe are sealed in.
