PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrocarbon reforming catalyst which is constituted of a perovskite type composite oxide, and with which a reforming reaction of a hydrocarbon such as biomass can be achieved at a lower temperature.
SOLUTION : A hydrocarbon reforming catalyst includes : a perovskite type composite oxide constituted of an alkaline earth metal element which is at least one of Sr and Ba, a first transition metal element which is at least one of Ti and Zr; a second transition metal element which is at least one of Mn and Co; and a metal or a metal oxide which is an active component. For example, the catalyst 7 is placed on the downstream side of biomass 6 in a reaction tube 2, and biomass 6 and the catalyst 7 are heated with heaters 8 and 9. By a reforming reaction of the biomass 6, synthesis gas which is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen is generated and simultaneously tar is also generated, however, the tar is decomposed by the catalyst 7 so as to generate carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and consequently an amount of tar is reduced.
