PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electrode catalyst with higher oxygen reduction activity compared with a conventional one by providing the electrode catalyst suitable as a catalyst for oxygen reduction, and a gas diffusion electrode at low overvoltage. SOLUTION : The electrode catalyst is a composite catalyst of rare earth oxide particulate and silver particulate carried on a conductive carrier. The electrode catalyst with high oxygen reduction activity is realized by forming solid-solution of the rare-earth oxide particulate and alkaline-earth metal. COPYRIGHT : (C)2004, JPO&NCIPI
