PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a moisture adsorbent which satisfies the following improved points to conventional adsorbents : (1) the low-alkalinity to environment is secured; (2) the heavy metal group including fluorine is immobilized; (3) the moisture adsorption rate of 30% or above is secured; (4) it is not re-sludged when it is brought into contact with moisture of a material to be treated; (5) the article is an anhydrous powder granule that is easy to deal with; and (6) it does not generate harmful hydrogen sulfide when it is left in nature.
SOLUTION : A method of manufacturing the moisture adsorbent includes steps of preparing a hydrous powder granularly treated material from pre-powder having a covering-coagulant added thereto by using powdered gypsum dihydrate or powdered gypsum dihydrate and a nonpolluting type adsorbent adjuvant as main raw materials and then conducting the heat dehydration treatment of the treated material to reform to a hydrous adsorbent composed of a nonpolluting type anhydrous powder granule that is inexpensive and safe based on hemihydrate gypsum as a main raw material. In the moisture adsorbent composed of the nonpolluting type anhydrous powder granule prepared by the manufacturing method, the moisture adsorbent using hemihydrate gypsum as a main ingredient secures the characteristic properties simultaneously that the moisture adsorption rate is 30% or above; the non re-sludged state is secured when it is brought into contact with water; the pH value is in a range of 6 through 8.6 and the co-existing harmful water leachable heavy metal group is immobilized within a range of environmental standard value or below.
