PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an inexpensive lithium battery having excellent large-current discharge characteristics, especially large-current discharge characteristics at low temperatures, and a high-temperature preservation property.SOLUTION : The lithium battery includes a positive electrode containing positive electrode active material, a negative electrode containing at least one of metal lithium and lithium alloy as negative electrode active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode active material is γ-β manganese dioxide containing 0.05-0.3 wt.% of boron and 0.05-2 wt.% of alkaline-earth metal.
