PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an insular magnetic thin film composed of a magnetic material containing a rare earth element and having such an insular structure where isolated insular particles composed of the magnetic material are arranged like a discontinuous film, wherein the grain size of the insular particles is small enough, the thickness of the film is thin enough, and the coercive force is high enough.SOLUTION : In the insular magnetic thin film where isolated insular particles composed of a magnetic material are arranged like a discontinuous film, the magnetic material contains a rare earth element, the in-plane diameter of the insular particles has an average value in the range of 40-140 nm, and the thickness of the thin film is in the range of 2-25 nm.COPYRIGHT : (C)2009, JPO&INPIT
