[PROBLEMS] To provide a pesticide and the like with the use of an effect of inducing the systemic acquired resistance in a plant. To provide a growth inhibitor not only for plant pathogenic microorganisms but also for harmful microorganisms. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Utilization of rare sugars for inducing the systemic acquired resistance in a plant or inhibiting the growth of a microorganism. Taking advantage of the effect of inducing the systemic acquired resistance in a plant, utilization as a pesticide, a plant disease damage inhibitor, plant growth controller-inducers (i.e., agents inducing plant hormone-like effects such as disease damage resistance, insect damage resistance, fruit maturation, dormancy breakage, germination control, resistances for environmental stresses such as drying resistance, low temperature resistance, high temperature resistance, salt resistance and heavy metal resistance and flowering promotion) and a microorganism growth inhibitor. The rare sugars include (aldose D-allose, D-altrose or L-galactose) or ketose (D-psicose or a mixture of D-psicose with D-fructose).
