PURPOSE : Provided is a lithium secondary battery which is has high capacity, is stable at a high voltage and is improved in high voltage charge characteristic by increasing the density of an active mass. CONSTITUTION : The lithium secondary battery comprises a positive electrode comprising a positive electrode active material which comprises a lithium nickel-based compound represented by LiNixCoyMnzO2 and a lithium cobalt-based compound having a surface treatment layer comprising a compound represented by MPOb; a negative electrode comprising a negative electrode active material which can intercalate and deintercalate a lithium ion reversibly; and an electrolyte solution which comprises a nonaqueous organic solvent containing sulfolane and a lithium salt, wherein x is 0.2-0.4; y is 0.2-0.4; z is 0.2-0.4; M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, an element of group 13, an element of group 14, a transition metal and a rare earth metal; and b is an integer of 2-4. © KIPO 2006
